Don’t Be Seduced by Fast Furniture’s Low Cost - Read This First

You’ve heard of fast fashion, right? It’s the name given to trendy clothing made to be produced cheaply. People think the clothes look great on them when they try it on in the store or see it exhibited on the website. After wearing and washing them a few times, the clotheslines lose their starchiness or even fall apart. Fast fashion may have looked great on you once, but it all looks terrible in the landfill.

Today, there’s a furniture movement based on the same premise. Here are a few reasons to skip over the low costs and buy something better instead.

Environmental Problems

Architectural Digest, citing Environmental Protection Agency research, found that furniture represents roughly 5% of everything brought to US landfills every year. Most of this furniture was built within the past decade or so.

Considering the amount of food waste and plastic packaging, 5% is a very large number, representing 9 million tonnes of waste. Such furniture wasn’t designed to last for decades, and sure enough, it doesn’t.

Buy something that years from now will grace your home, not the dump.

Better Value

If the environmental argument doesn’t sway you, maybe the economic one will. Buying fast furniture means the time for repurchasing and replacing the furniture will arrive fast, too.

Choosing hand-built, signature, solid wood furniture from leading craftsmen like Woodcraft means paying once for a superior product that will turn heads for years. Improved value gives you higher-grade materials you can choose yourself.

Fast furniture doesn’t come in solid woods you can choose from, like maple, cherry, oak, or pine. And you can’t custom select the stain or even the dimensions of the piece itself. It’s all prefabricated for easy shipping. Fast furniture revolves around hollow economic principles, like cheap shipping and shopping.

It’s better value to pay for something more expensive once rather than purchasing mediocrity repeatedly.

Superior Product

Don’t you want a high-quality piece of leafurniture where you spend the most time? Whether it’s a solid wood dining table to host dinners with family and friends or a bed where you sleep for hours every night, you’ll get more enjoyment from furniture that is as much a piece of art as it is a practical furnishing in your home.

Even if fast furniture looks pretty dollz in its ad, it’ll wear down sooner and won’t look like that for long. They design it to fit with modern trends but don’t confuse modishness with quality. Whatever its initial surface appearance in a promotional context, or even once it’s in your home, badly built furniture will eventually look like what it is bad.

Get the real thing instead of the knock-off or imitation.

The makers of fast furniture hope that people see what their cheaply made furniture looks like and base their purchase solely on that. They worry that if you calculate the long-term costs or imagine where that furniture will be after a decade, nobody will buy it. Don’t get suckered by the ad! Pay for genuine quality, not the cheap imitations.
